Winning an Oscar could really be a curse. That is, for the best actress category.
I still remember when Emma Thompson, a couple of years after getting one for her “Sense and Sensibility,” announced that she and then hubby Kenneth Branagh were splitting up.
And then there is the case of Halle Berry, who had a difficult lovelife with her sex-starved partner. And later, it was the turn of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe to break up and shatter their family life.
Fortunately, Gwyneth Paltrow got hers before she was involved with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Unfortunately, Hilary Swank didn’t escape the curse. Forgetting to thank her husband Chad Lowe in 2000 after receiving her first Oscar for “Boys Don’t Cry” might be an omen of things to come. After nine years of marriage, the two got divorced.
Either that or their men didn’t really approve of their partners’ sudden success. Just like Hilary’s admission that Chad wasn’t comfortable with hers.
Nevertheless, it is good to know that “The Reaping” star and her agent-cum-lover John Campisi are having fun together. Opening up for the first time about her new life through In Touch via Female First, the 33-year-old actress says:

“He is an extraordinary man. I’m very, very fine with him. I am pretty optimistic about us.”

She is even thinking of starting a family and babies will complete her world.

“I definitely want to have babies one day! They bind together and change the whole life.”

Though I am advising her to slow down and kick off this habit of method acting if she wants to have children. The determined actress is known to risk her health for the sake of acting. She has been diagnosed having “elevated mercury” in her sytem due to a strict diet when preparing for a role.
In “Black Dahlia,” when her character dies:

“I hit my arm on an old-fashioned ironing board, and I have a scar from that… But how great to have that. That’s what life is–you want to get in there and play hard. The battle scars are a reminder that you’re alive and human and that you bleed.”

Celebrities do have a penchant for quickie marriages. Maybe because their matrimonial practices get easily noticed by the media and the curious public? Or they do this under the impression that they can easily get away with it? Unfortunately, people do remember. And it is a fact that the society, be it the fans or the press, has issues with morality.
So who won the title? Who is the sly one? Who was the most notorious pair? Who held on the longest?

The list so far:

Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd, 10 months and a few days. JLo married Cris Judd, her former backup dancer, on September 29, 2001. She met Chris while filming the music video for her single “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” Without a fuss, the two dissolved their marriage in August 2002. Miss Lopez had a history with short marriages. The singer was first married to Cuban-born Ojani Noa in February 1997 and split up in March 1998. That was 13 months, all in all!

Elizabeth Taylor and Conrad “Nicky” Hilton, 9 months. What if there would be a spark between the then 18-year-old Elizabeth and Nicky Hilton, then, there would be no Paris and her sister Nicky in the world. Hurray!?? But knowing Elizabeth and her famous husbands and marriages, this would be unthinkable. The socialites’ great-grandpa, who was regarded already a socialite then, married the actress in May 1950 and divorced in January 1951. Come to think of it, socialising is definitely running in this clan’s blood. Oh well, at least they own a first-class hotel. Later on, the the hotelier married an oil heiress Patricia “Trish” McClintock on November 26, 1958. But later divorced in 1965. Elizabeth went on to her wedding spree.

Courtney Thorne-Smith and Andrew Conrad, 8 months. They wed in June 2000 and already split up in January 2001. Her former husband is a genetic scientist. I probably remember her opposite Andrew Shue, who played her lover in “Melrose Place” and evidently became her boyfriend off and on the screen.

Charlie Sheen and Donna Peele, 6 months. Before bad boy Charlie and Denise Richards became an official pair, he was first married to model Donna Peele. He met his first wife when they filmed a cigarette commercial together in Japan. They wed in September 1995. In February 1996, they got separated. Charlie is famous for his womanising/misogyny, his girlfriends from the adult industry and battery.

Shannen Doherty and Ashley Hamilton, 6 months. They got married in September 1993 and split up in February 1994. The “Charmed” witch Shannen is know for her wild relationships. Former husband Ashley is the son of actor George Hamilton, who is a close friend of Imelda Marcos. Shannen also married Rick Salomon in February 2002. But they separated in November 2002, for nine months. Rick, as we all know is the infamous Rick who brought out the Paris Hilton sex tape, “1 Night in Paris,”

Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman, 5 months. The notorious basketball star was already known for his enfant terrible acts in his branch when he married Carmen in November 1998 in a quickie Vegas wedding ceremony. It was reported that Dennis tried to get an annullment after nine days of being married. But they fnally split up in March 1999.

Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney, 5 months. The two met in January 2004 at a tsunami relief benefit concert. On May 9, 2005, Renee married country singer Kenny Chesney in a ceremony at the island of St. John. It was said that the actress missed out on the engagement ring since the wedding was planned over a short span of time. On September 15, 2005, they announced their plans for an annulment. Renee cited “fraud” as the reason in the related papers. The media scrutinised her for using the word “fraud.” Because of it, she then released the following statement: “(The term is) simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny’s character. I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions. We hope to experience this transition as privately as possible.” It was finalised in late December 2005. Renee was still adamant when asnwering questions concerning her brief marriage. During an interview with David Letterman on his show, the actress appeared to be uncomfy when cornered by the famous host.

When David said: “Can we talk about your marriage to Kenny Chesney a little bit?”
Renee replied sarcastically: “I thought you’d never ask!”
The host then adds: “Did you kids really try?”
But Renee appeared visibly uncomfortable and said: “It’s OK, baby, I can take it. C’mon, let’s go. I’m ready!”
The stunning star kept trying to avoid the questions, with David asking about the current state of their relationship saying: “Are you still friends with him?”
Renee said: “Yes, I am still friends with him. Not you, anymore, now we’re done! Oh, no, it’s all over now. I mean we had a good thing going for years here.”

Nicky Hilton and and Todd Andrew Meister, 4 months. Conrad Hilton’s great-grandniece married the businessman on August 15, 2004, but the marriage was annulled in November 2004.

Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage, 3 months, 15 days. When the two got together it became a media frenzy. They wed in August 2002. Less than four months of being together, it was over in November 2002. Lisa said it was “a big mistake.” Nicholas never said a word concerning the divorce.

“I’m sad about this, but we shouldn’t have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake,” Presley said in a statement issued by her publicist, Paul Bloch.
Cage issued a terse comment in response. “I did not comment on the marriage, I am not going to comment on the divorce,” he said through a statement from his publicist, Annette Wolf. Source

Lisa told Oprah that she was upset about the breakup but they remain friends.

“I have to give him credit, you know. That was not a fun time for either of us. He did redeem himself in the end and we did become very good friends after that. We’re better like that. And he’s happily married and has a baby coming now, which is great.”

Elvis’ daughter also married the changeling Michael Jackson and were together for 21 months.

Ernest Borgnine and Ethel Merman, 32 days. They wed June 1964 and split up in July 1964. That’s 32 days. According to this website:

“The coupling of thrice-wed Broadway belter Ethel Merman and twice-wed Oscar-winner Ernest Borgnine is one of the kookiest in Hollywood history. The unlikely duo’s knot began unraveling on their honeymoon, when, according to Borgnine, he garnered the lion’s share of fan attention, which left Merman seething. “By the time we got home, it was hell on earth,” he recalled in 2001. “And after 32 days I said to her, ‘Madam, bye.’” But things weren’t exactly coming up roses for the Merm: she was allegedly subjected to the silent and deadly “Dutch Oven,” which involved Borgnine releasing toxic fumes in bed while trapping her under the sheets. Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas, 30 days. In March 1994, she married bartender-turned-bar owner Jeremy Thomas in his Los Angeles tavern and was performed by a clairvoyant the couple reached by dialing a psychic hot line. Though the “joke wedding” seemed to be a joke in the first place. The 19-year-old Drew filed for divorce in April 1994. Her marriage to comedian Tom Green in July 2001 only lasted for five months.

Cher and Gregg Allman, 9 days. Three days after she divorced Sonny Bono, Cher and rock star Gregg Allman from Allman Brothers Band spontaneously flew to Vegas in his Lear Jet to wed in July 1975. Ten days after the wedding upon discovering that she couldn’t compete with Greg’s addiction to drugs and alcohol, she filed for a divorce the same month. It was said that she cried all the way home after the ceremony. Cher knew that it was a bad idea. But strangest of all things, due to her career and a son, Elijah Blue Allman, who was born in 1976, Greg became her rebound-husband and they stayed on till she couldn’t take Greg’s addiction anymore. It was finalised in 1977.

Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillips, 8 days. The kooky Dennis married Mamas and the Papas singer Michelle in October 1970 and split up in November 1970.
When Michelle was asked about her marriage to Dennis:

“I will say this about Dennis Hopper: We were married for eight days and truly… they were the happiest days of my life.”

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander, 55 hours. Before the pop crazy Britney married K-Fed, she was then fooling around with her childhood friend Jason. It was said that at 5:30 A.M. “at the tail end of a 2004 New Year’s blowout in Vegas, Britney and her high school pal stuck it out for two days before she filed for an annulment. She cited that fact that she ‘lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to marriage because before entering into the marriage the Plaintiff and Defendant did not know each other’s likes and dislikes, each others’ desires to have or not have children, and each other’s desires as to State of residency.’ ” Jason, who was then a 22-year-old junior at Southeastern Louisiana University, wasn’t satisfied.
Months after the annulment “he told a British tabloid it was Britney who proposed to him after several nights of ‘mind-blowing and rough’ sex. He signed annulment papers, he claimed, under pressure from Britney’s family, and another British tabloid alleged he was paid more than $500,000 for his trouble. Rudolph Valentino and Jean Acker, 6 hours. The famous silent actor Rudolph, an Italian, married Jean, later revealed as a lesbian, after meeting her at a party. He was then a struggling actor. It was a two-month courtship until they decided to marry on November 6, 1919. Jean allegedly had regrets and supposedly locked him out of their hotel bedroom on their wedding night. She then ran to the apartment of her female lover, Grace Darmond, in tears. Out of desperation, the actor went home. The marriage was reportedly never consummated. They didn’t finalise the divorce until 1922.

Marilyn Manson, 38, has come back with a new album, “Eat Me, Drink Me.” He recently had a heart-to-heart talk with Henry Rollins on his show concerning the shock rocker’s latest work. Henry was desperately longing to hear anti-American sentiments or provocations from the rocker’s lips but instead he began to talk about the lack of inspiration and the people who moved away from him, which became the inspiration for his album. Without speaking the name of his ex-wife, Dita von Teese, 36, a recent interview with Rolling Stone and Le Parisien confirmed the reason of their breakup: his depression and his new girlfriend, Evan Rachel Wood.
The young actress, whose fashion style very much resembles a lighter, blonder Dita’s, attended the grand opening of the rock star’s new Celebritarian Corporation Gallery of Fine Art last year. Two of her portraits done by Marilyn have been on display. She was even to co-star in his upcoming horror film “Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.”

“I’ve found my double, my twin, with my new girlfriend, Evan Rachel Wood. She’s 19 and certainly that’s very young, but that’s not a problem for me. She likes the same things as me. She understands I like to get up when night falls and go to sleep at dawn.”

He continued:

“Our (with Dita) relationship ended at Halloween. I was completely destroyed psychologically. I’d rented a house and begun working on this disc, which sort of tells everything that happened to me during the past year. I was married to someone who wanted me to change, become more adult, more responsible. I began not to like myself, not like what I do. I lost my identity. Everything began collapsing around me. The record allowed me to put an end to that. Dita left at Christmas while I was recording.”

In turn, Dita told the Daily Telegraph that there was “someone” and that she couldn’t keep up with Marilyn’s party lifestyle. At first she demanded the reporter not to ask anything about the divorce or the former husband. But Marilyn’s outings with the media encouraged her to speak up.

“I had all the faith in the world in our relationship for the seven years we were together. I loved him very much, and when I married him I completely believed it would be forever.’ (She pauses.) ‘But that’s not what happened.

Dita said her husband “lapsed into depression” and was tempted to commit suicide after she left him. And, yes, there was an “alleged infidelity.”

“It was difficult, because I was trying to get him help for his problems, and eventually I realised that he didn’t want help. I wasn’t supportive about his partying or his relationship with another girl, and as much as I loved him I wasn’t going to be part of that. Everything went downhill after we got married. I started working a lot to escape my home life.”

In his recent Rolling Stone interview, his new album “was clearly written to seduce somebody.”
Dita quickly added:

“He says how depressed he was. I get the impression he thinks I was unsupportive. But the truth is I wasn’t supportive of his lifestyle, and someone else came along who was. It didn’t work. Instead, it made me the enemy.’

And what happened was her decision to move out on Christmas Eve, empty-handed. The rest as they say is what we read on the gossip magazines.

“I left with nothing. I knew that there was an inappropriate relationship going on in it, and I didn’t want any part of it around to remind me. I didn’t want that sofa. I didn’t want that bed. I didn’t want the knife you read about in the article.’

While Marilyn is happy cajoling with new girlfriend, Dita doesn’t mind being set up by friends on several blind dates.

“I figure I have a better chance being introduced to somebody through a friend than I do meeting someone in a bar or on the internet. And I know that I loved him [Manson] enough to try and help.”

Rock stars like Marilyn don’t change just because. Oftentimes, the image they portray onstage is what they are or want to be be in real life. One can adore them but to marry them, hell, no.
At least, now Dita knows. Once a Marilyn Manson, always a Marilyn Manson. He’s not acting. It is for real.

I wonder how much is Eddie Murphy’s worth that Melanie Brown doesn’t let go of the past. The affair between her and the successful actor is already history.
Perhaps, it is really a matter of conviction, of proving that she isn’t lying and it is the “prick” Eddie who has to carry the brunt of the public after he left her very pregnant and was happily going out with someone.
This week she reportedly named her baby girl after her former lover.
Rightfully so, Eddie’s new love producer Tracey Edmonds, the ex-wife of Babyface, a.k.a. Kenneth Edmonds, declared that if the actor is indeed the father then he should be held responsible with it. She said in March during a radio interview.

Angel, as she was my little angel through my pregnancy,” she said. “Iris, as it’s my grandma’s name, Murphy because he’s the dad and Brown because I’m the mum!

Their relationship was one of the surprises in 2006. They started dating in June of the same year after Eddie divorced his wife of 12 years, Nicole Mitchell, in April. If Angel Iris will be proven as Eddie’s daughter, she’s gonna be her sixth child. Melanie has an 8-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, from former husband Jimmy Gulzar, her dancer.
She was devastated after she heard the news that the actor declared on Dutch TV’s “RTL Boulevard” that their relationship was over.
He was quoted on a clip from the show’s website saying:

“We’re not together anymore. And I don’t know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”

Therefore, the name of Scary Spice’s newborn daughter is Angel Iris Murphy Brown. Just so you’ll know. Hopefully, the singer will get what she wants that is the official confirmation of the baby’s real father after the paternity test.

Thanks to her British boyfriend, the actress finds UK’s London a fascinating place to live in, and possibly move in there permanently following the foosteps of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Meanwhile, Kiki’s beau had a heart-to-heart talk with the magazine divulging the love affair between him and the star during a press event in Los Angeles to promote his band’s new single, “America.”

“I’m not hiding anything. We met in Los Angeles. We were hanging out at South by Southwest and we’ve been hanging out eversince… I don’t think there’s any rules behind it. If you fall you fall. In life that’s what you do. You follow the things that you can’t resist and you go where you go. That’s falling in love.”

Kirsten, who wore a black dress, was alone in Leicester Square for the London premiere of her new movie, “Spiderman,” the third installment in the Marvel comic book series. She was joined on the red carpet by her co-star Tobey Maguire. Later Kirsten and Johnny met up in Camden pub, The Hawley Arms, after the premiere for a late-night drinking session.
It was said that the actress looked wasted after partying with her rock star lover.
A friend of the actress also told People that the two indeed split up for a while. “There was a little breakup, but it resolved very quickly. They’re really, really into each other… It’s like googly love!”

Has Guy Ritchie had enough of Madonna’s maneuverings? Does Madonna really wear the pants in the family? Is it bad for the two artists, who in their own right have become famous for what they do?
If the answer would all be “yes,” then Madonna’s solo flight to Malawi could have a reason.
On April 20, husband Guy was seen dancing with a brunette at a London club, Mahiki. The film director, whose career has been at a standstill ever since his publicised affair with the celebrity icon, was spotted with a mysterious brunette intimately dancing on the floor.
The 48-year-old singer, who flew back home yesterday from Malawi, was “allegedly furious at her husband for not accompanying her on the trip.” The couple had said to have had “screaming” rows over the phone since April 16, early last week.
Guy, at first, played it cool and demure at a club. Till he let his hair down. Sources said, “He came with a group of blokes who were all up for having a big night. Guy seemed a bit solemn at first. He seemed determined to drown his sorrows as the drinks flowed. Then he hit the dance floor and spotted a leggy brunette. They seemed to just click together. When they got talking they began dancing closely. They didn’t leave together but got very close on the dance floor.”
On the other other hand, Madonna, who wanted a girl from Malawi, found out she has to wait for months before she could adopt again. Now, one of the things she would like to do is to follow her husband’s footsteps. She wanted to direct a low-budget movie, “Filth and Wisdom,” in London this month.
Her last film, “Swept Away, directed by Guy, flopped in the box office. Though Madonna, has “Guy’s full support,” an insider said, she was heard telling him, “Anything you can do, I can do better, honey.”

Celebrities can do pretty much anything because of the money they possess. If they could, they would even go for the moon. That is, if they know its significance to their lives and careers.
If they marry, they’d go for the big celebration, the most lavish party, the most exotic islands, the biggest locations, the most number of the guests and even meal courses. If they divorce, it is also the same. Just like a mirror.

The media might brand her as the princess of pop-punk fusion, but Avril Lavigne definitely appeared like a grunge pixie as she released her record realease party, “The Best Damn Thing,” at the Box in New York City. The title could perhaps best described her career or her marriage with Deryck Whibley Sum 41 singer. Or even both.
Joined by her hubby, her mother, backup singers and band, Avril was wearing a pink gown matched with her pink-orange lashes and eyes dabbed in glitters and black.

The odd couple was spotted last weekend at Hackney Empire in London doing some improvisation on how to attract attention. The iconic supermodel, a mother of 4-year-old Lila Grace, was caught hanging out of the club’s window while rocker Pete supported his paramour’s dainty shoulders.
Two unknown men were also seen helping out to ease the couple’s strange antic.

To celebrate her birthday, husband and footballer David Beckham suprised his wife Victoria, a.k.a Posh Spice, for a trip to Paris.
Now, before you swoon, ever since their lives have been documented all the time by the media, David and Posh never fail to amaze us with their movielike and fairytale-like antics to satisfy the greedy viewing public.
Flashing a new tattoo on his forearm, the white T shirt-wearing David held the fragile hand of his wife as they headed to shop a video camera from a Parisian store.
According to the Sun, the soccer player mapped out the destination and the activities without telling her. Their boys Romeo and Cruz even conspired to make this event an even more unforgettable.
On her birthday they woke her up in their Madrid home and presented her their self-made birthday cards.
Afterward David whisked her off for a first-class flight to Paris, where the couple were booked in at their favourite hotel, The Ritz. Then he took Posh on a shopping spree to buy an outfit to be worn when they went out for last night’s dinner.
A friend told the Sun that Posh knew nothing about it.
“David even arranged for her clothes to be packed and ready but didn’t say where they were going until the very last minute.”
The two arrived in Paris at 2 p.m. Plenty of time to go shopping before dinner. He also arranged a group of friends and family to join them for the evening.
Victoria reportedly appreciated her hubby’s thoughtful present. Who wouldn’t?

Desperate to be married?
Eva Longoria was just too happy to share her excitement on forthcoming nuptial ceremony with French-born basketball star Tony Parker. The bride-to-be and colleagues and, perhaps, friends from the popular TV series “Desperate Housewives” were partying on the last day of her singlehood.
The star-studded party was held at Felicity Huffman’s house in the Hollywood Hills, with the guest list including onscreen pals Nicollette Sheridan and new mother Marcia Cross.
The 31-year-old former beauty queen is about to tie the knot with Tony, 24, in France, on July 7.
Eva was so eager to wear a wedding dress that she found it sad to put it in storage and then never see it again. “I am going to sleep in mine after I wear it.”
She also enthused: “I wish I could wear 10 dresses to my wedding.”

She, helping to present the world premiere of “Spiderman 3″ at the Toho Cinemas in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. And he, performing in front of the Japanese audience in HMV store in Shibuya. The couple were lovey-dovey as Johnny held Kiki’s hand, their eyes twinkling and exchanging pensive, coyish smiles.
Kiki is doing everything she can to woo back the singer.

The young actress was said to fork out £8,000 to fly the Razorlight frontman first-class to the Japanese capital and a further £12,000 on a luxury penthouse suite for her floppy haired beau–so they can walk down the red carpet together. Kirsten’s generous gesture has confirmed to her friends that she is serious about Johnny.
A source said: “Everyone raised their eyebrows when they got together as they seemed quite an odd couple. But it’s the real thing.”

When Kiki was back in Los Angeles a source confirmed that she missed the Razorlight frontman so much that “she’s flying him over there for a week.” The 25-year-old Spiderman star reportedly paid for Johnny to visit her in Los Angeles last week. The two were caught by the photogs when they were in LA.
Johnny might have a change of heart. After all he is booked to pose on the cover of Vogue magazine, which is said to be an honour as he is the fourth man in history to do so. It looks like everything is set for his celeb status now that he has an actress girlfriend. Meanwhile, Kiki is praising the joys of living freely and one of them is smoking marijuana. Kiki thinks that America doesn’t have the same opinion like hers when it comes to weed and its uses. Not really rallying for the use of drugs, she believes that the world would be a “better place” if more people
smoked marijuana.
News were abound that the two broke up after the Razorlight frontman was rumoured to go back to his previous girlfriend’s arms, Fabiola Gatti.

British actress Rachel Weisz, who has an Austrian mother and a Hungarian father, admitted that while filming “The Fountain” with live-in partner and director Darren Aronofsky, she was nervous and afraid that the intensity of working together would take a toll on their relationship, according to Live, a Viennese lifestyle weekend and TV magazine.
Rachel was the second choice to play the parts of Queen Isabel and Izzi Creo, which was first assigned to Cate Blanchett. In order to diminish the pressure of working together, Rachel and Darren, a maverick director responsible for “Requiem for a Dream,” decided to live separately.
“It was strange because we only saw each other on the set. But on weekends we were a pair,” Rachel mentioned.
“Which inevitably lead to tensions and fights,” Darren laughed at their thought-about solution.
But their relationship has survived and last year their son, Henry, was born, who is now 11 months old.
